VIDEO: 25 FAMILIES TRAPPED AS 5-STOREYBUILDING COLLAPSE , MORE THAN 50 FEARED TRAPPED IN MUMBAI
Early this morning , at about 6:30 am in a south Mumbai locality ,near the Babugenu market in Dockyard Road area, India A 5-storey building collapsed and more than 25 people are feared trapped in the rubble. Rescue operation is going on there as i write this post .
It was said that the building just came crashing down at least five people are injured and 50 are feared trapped . The incident which occurred early this morning caught majority of the residents in their sleep . The building is a staff quarters of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, BMC which is located opposite Dockyard road .About 20-25 people are believed to be trapped in the building. The building reportedly had 28 rooms.

Four persons were injured and at least 50 others are still feared trapped under debris. Four persons, who were rescued from the debris, have been admitted to the government-run JJ hospital.
A local Shiv Sena worker said there was a godown in the ground floor of the residential BMC quarters and some repair work was in progress.
* Two teams of National Disaster Response Force have been deployed on the spot. * Unconfirmed reports suggest 2 of the injured are critical. * A local politician, who was also the corporator for the area, told a news channel that the building was 50-60 years old. But it had structural issues that led to its collapse. He also said he had been raising this issue with authorities and that the building had undergone repairs in 1997.
Five people have been rescued and at least 40 others are still feared to be trapped in the debris. Four ambulances and 12 fire engines have been rushed to the spot.
Five persons, who were rescued from the debris have been admitted to the government-run JJ hospital. Locals said they had demanded that the building be repaired as far back as 2007 but the appeals fall on deaf ears. Rescued residents said cracks had been developing on the walls for a long time now. Three of the four storeys of the buildings were said to be occupied. Rescue efforts are on in full swing, with two NDRF teams pressed into service.
Shantha, a resident, said, “The MCD only put a bamboo pillar. They said the building could collapse but did not help.” A local Shiv Sena worker said there was a godown in the ground floor of the residential BMC quarters and some repair work was in progress.
