  NIGERIA CRASHES TO 35TH IN THE FIFA RANKINGS. 

In the latest monthly FIFA Rankings, Nigeria have slumped further behind, going down four places to 35th in the World rankings. Also Nigeria moved down a place in Africa, and drops to fifth on the log,with Algeria overtaking Nigeria in fourth position.
Nigeria was able to accumulate a total of 723 points which explains their  current position. Despite playing at the FIFA Confederations Cup, Nigeria’s rankings could not improve, as they only managed to record a victory against lowly rated. Tahiti, failing to win any other game, which led to their exit in the group stages.

Also the Super Eagles failed to take full advantage of their group in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers played in June, winning against Kenya and managing a 1-1 draw against Malawi. In the overall rankings, Brazil were the biggest movers, as they crashed into the top ten and are now ranked ninth as against their previous rankings of 22nd.

The Selecao moved into the top ten by virtue of their FIFA Confederations Cup win, on home soil. Spain, despite their humiliating defeat to Brazil in the finals of the Confederations Cup, still maintained the top spot in first position 1532
points.
The biggest mover in Africa is Senegal, who climbed up 25 places to now rank 74th in the world and 17th in Africa.

 ONYALI APPOINTED SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO NSC DG 

Onyali Appointed Elegbeleye’s Special Assistant

Former sprint star and Atlanta Olympics bronze medalist, Mary Onyali has been appointed as Special Assistant on Technical Matters to the Director General of the National Sports Commission Mr. Gbenga Elegbeleye. An elated Onyali was full of appreciation to the Director General for the recognition accorded her and vowed to help develop sports through the period.
She expressed her happiness as she received the appointment letter from the new DG and stated that it was a step in the right direction for true believers, true sports lovers, true believers of the abundant talents in the country and the African continent as a whole.
In her employment letter dated July 1, 2013,she was directed to start work immediately.

SOUTH AFRICA PICKS NIGERIA FOR MANDELA

Bafana Bafana coach, Gordon Igesund, believes his team’s game against Nigeria in this year’s Nelson Mandela Challenge will provide a perfect platform for the South Africans to prepare for critical World Cup Qualifiers against Botswana in September.

Nigeria will be South Africa’s opponents in this year’s Nelson Mandela Challenge, which will hold on August 17

 NSF ATHLETES GET EMPLOYMENT IN NIGER STATE 
The Niger State Government has offered employment to its athletes who won medals at the 12th National Sports Festival held in Lagos in 2012.
The Commissioner for Sports Development, Daniel Shashere, disclosed this during a reception in honor of the athletes and officials held in Minna.
Shashere, who did not disclose the number of the athletes offered employment, said that the athletes were given automatic employment in the state civil service. The state government also rewarded the sportsmen, including officials, with over N13 million for their contributions to sports development in the state. Gold medalists were rewarded with N350, 000 each, silver medalists N250, 000 each and N150, 000 for each bronze medalist. The coaches and other officials got between N100, 000 and N150, 000 each, while athletes who did not win medals at the festival received N10, 000 each.”
According to him, the state government would continue to reward excellence in sports in order to develop its potential at the grass-roots level. He urged them to put more effort personally and ensure that they win more medals at the 19th edition of the festival next year in Calabar.

OFFICIATING SHOULD BE IMPROVED -HALILU
Media Officer of Nigerian Professional Football League side, Gombe United, Halilu Peli has said that the League referees to improve on their officiating in the second phase of the league matches. He commended them for their performance so far and hoped that the two-week break was used to make amendments for poor decisions made in the first stanza of the 2012/2013 season.

NIGERIA’S VOLLEYBALL TEAM FINISHES LAST AT CHAMPIONSHIP
The Nigeria Volleyball team has finished last at the FIVB Women’s U20 Championship in Brno, Czech Republic as they failed to register a win in the championship, losing their first four games and the other three subsequent games, in the first round of Pool D and three others in the classification round.
A 3-0 defeat by Thailand, ensured that Nigeria finished bottom of the log in their final classification round match. Thailand had the upper hand in the game, dominating from the start to the finish, recording their second win in the 17-20 classification round.
In the three rounds, Nigeria failed to win any as they fell 16-25, 9-25, 11-25 in all the three rounds of the encounter.
Nigeria committed 18 errors in the game as against Thailand’s 14 in the match, with Team Captain, Mercy Promise accounting for eight points for Nigeria.
Nigeria’s coach, Sergey Ovechkin, said that the team had p psychological problems, which made them to make too many mistakes.

 NIGERIA CRICKET FEDERATION RELEASE 15-MAN LIST

Nigeria Cricket Federation has released the list of players for this month’s International Cricket Council World Cricket League Division VI competition scheduled to hold in Jersey, an island off the coast of the United Kingdom.
Captain Kunle Adegbola, Endurance Ofem, Ademola Onikoyi, Emmanuel Okwudili and Jide Bejide are some of the key players included in the 15-man team largely reminiscent of the squad that represented Nigeria at the World Cricket League Division VII tournament in Botswana.
Other players who made the cut are Ayoola Olatunji, Segun Olayinka, Osita Onwuzulike, Joshua Ogunlola, Seye Olympio,Leke Oyede, Ricky Sharma, Joshua Ayannaike, Saheed Akolade and Mathias Devadayal.
The Nigeria National Cricket team had few weeks ago commenced closed camping in Abuja ahead of the World Cricket League, which holds from July 19-29 in Jersey.

NIGERIA U-20 COACH JOHN OBUH RESIGNS 
Coach of the Nigeria Flying Eagles, John SamObuh has announced his resignation. He made this known on his arrival to the country from the on-going U-20 World Cup in Turkey which Nigeria exited in the round of 16 after a 2-1 loss to Uruguay.
Obuh said his target at the tournament wasnot to leave the stage so early but he hope the next coach will take it fromwhere he stopped. He added that despite playing a man short for half of the match, they flying Eagles fought a good fight, and they accept the loss in good faith.While reacting to this, former coach of the flying Eagles to the African Youth Championship in 2009, Ladan Bosso said Obuh has tried his best and he hopes the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) will come out with a good programme that will help to strengthen the squad in its preparation for subsequent tournament.
Also reacting to the resignation, Godwin Uwua, former coach of the flying Eagles to the African Youth Championship in2007 has also stated that Obuh has done his best and had a wonderful performance despite playing with ten
men against Uruguay and thus, he need to rest and go on break, but urged the NFF to continue to support the national team coaches as he cited problems from the glasshouse as possible reasons for his resignation.

Bayelsa Utd started the second stanza of the 2012/2013 season with a draw against Dolphins fc. A beautiful work by Ihunda Chigozie who skipped past Iyasele and delivered a pin-point cross for Ifeanyi Egwimgave Dolphins the lead in the 13th minute but Bayelsa united equalized after Samuel Agba met Uche Ihuarulam’s square ball in the 15th minute. In the 28thminute, central midfielder, Emeka Atuloma restored Dolphinslead when he headed home a corner but Bayelsa united were resilient as they got the equalizer via penalty through Peter Ebimobowei after the centre referee spotted an infringement in the 77thminute.
Ladan Bosso, Coach of Bayelsa United revealed that the team tried and are happy with the result because Week 20 fixtures and results are always surprising due to the break. He said he presented a squad that will give them a better result than they recorded in the first stanza.
SHARKS FC1-0 NEMBE CITY
It was payback time for Sharks football club of Port Harcourt as they handed Nembe City with a one-nil victory after losing to them by same score line before the season’s break. Sharks fc seem to have beefed up their squad for the remainder of the season as they attempt to pick one of the continental tickets at the end of the 2012/2013 campaign

Akwa United got a much needed victory overGombe United after they lost by 4-1 away to them at the Pantami stadium before the break.
WIKKI TOURISTS4-0 LOBI STARS
Wikki Tourist of Bauchi hammered Lobi Starsof Makurdi four nil in their opening game of the second stanza of the 2012/2013 season. Lobi Stars who defeated Wikki Tourist beforethe two-week break by a lone
goal were a shadow of themselves as they could not break the defensive wall of Wikki tourist.
ELKANEMI WARRIORS 2-0 KANO PILLARS
Kano Pillars team left Maiduguri feeling punished after they were beaten by El Kanemi Warriors by two un-replied goals. The home team continued with their very impressive home record as pillars were confined to defending in the game.
ENUGU RANGERS2-0 NASARAWA UNITED
Stanley Eguma’s boys kept to their promise as they defeated Nasarawa fc by two nil. The flying Antelopes were not distracted by their recent disqualification by Confederation of African Football, (CAF) from the Continental Competition. Rangers Fc of Enugu will now concentrate on their weekend classic with Enyimba fc of Aba.
ABS FC1-0 KADUNA UNITED
Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s men continued from where they stopped in the first stanza of the 2012/2013 NPFL season with a one-nilvictory over Kaduna United. ABS fc have so far been very impressive at home in this season.
HEARTLAND FC0-1 ENYIMBA INT’L
Enyimba fc were lucky to grab an away victory against Heartland fc. Coach of the AbaElephant, Yusuf Salisu was elated to have wonder kid,Sokari Kingsley make his league debut. Heartland fc played their first games of the 1st and 2nd stanzas at home and lost both. Fidelis Savior grabbed the lone goal for the Aba Elephants.
SUNSHINE STARS1-1 WARRI WOLVES
Sunshine Stars were held to a one-all draw by Warri Wolves.Sunshine stars conceded a late goal against Warri Wolves to draw 1-1at home.Sunshine stars took the lead via a fantastic header from Oke in the 67th minute but rock-solid defender, Ike Thankgod gave Warri Wolves the equalizer through a header after he was left completely unmarked.
SHOOTING STARS SC 1-1KWARA UNITED
Kwara United earned a point in a hard-fought draw away to Shooting Stars of Akure as they played much of the game with ten men after Dare Ojo was shown a red card for a very harsh tackle on a 3sc player.
